The church is seen to most a religious place of worship, however to me, it was a playground of creativity. Through their many sermons, I was able to assist by bringing the story to life, creating works through various mediums, emphasizing the church’s dramatic flair.
CAT, LOST & FOUND | CREATIVE EDGE
MAIN ROLE: SET DESIGNER & PROP COORDINATOR
Cat, Lost and Found, originally staged by The Finger Players, is a play that explores the themes of love, loss and what happens when things are not as they seem. It featured a quirky cast of characters including a salesman, his dead mother, a Malay movie hero and 500 ghosts, It also tells an unconventional love story between a cat and his usher.
The goal of this project's design was to convey the message as simply as possible. The blocks doubled up as onstage storage so that they could be used as both set pieces to elevate the story and accessible storage for props.
Masks were moulded out of paper clay, and sword made from wood. The screen that functioned as a backdrop performed multiple functionality - it was a projection screen used to further storylines and an extension of the backstage area.
JURONG TOWN COUNCIL'S 50TH ANNIVERSARY
MAIN ROLE : PRODUCT DESIGNER
This was a celebration of Jurong Town Council's 50th anniversary. Numerous dignitaries, including Singapore's Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong, were in attendance. I was commissioned to design the exterior of a time capsule that was being put together for the commemoration of the Town Council's anniversary.
I took facets of the Town Council's building and interior design, as well as Jurong's rich history and journey from swampland to industrial metropolis, and incorporated these elements into the design of the time capsule.
PMQ DETOUR 2018
MAIN ROLE: SET DESIGNER
Project O was based off of the Shakespearean character of Ophelia. It is centred around her influences and the voices in her head, and was an interactive production that involved multifaceted auditory and musical stations based on the text.
I designed the set for this production, which involved setting thematic and colourised spaces, while marrying these themes together into a visual representation of Ophelia's psyche.
